The Ugly Truth of Fashion Industry
In 1980s, the average American bought about 12 new articles every year and now they buy 68 new pieces a year, because of dominant force in clothing industry.
Fast Fashion is a series of chain retailers who basically are able to look at the runaways and make garments really quick and put them into see now kind of environment.
- It is about making trendy clothes quick, cheap and disposable.
- It does not last longer.
Example- Topshop, H&M, Zara
Fast fashion is fashion now. We love it because we want the feeling of luxury without paying the price.
Zara’s parent company Inditex, is the biggest retail clothing company in the world. Is was originally called Zorba retail empire in 1975.
Why is ZARA the world’s biggest retailer?
- They pioneered and perfected the fast fashion business model.
- Knock offs just resemble the original design and also they are legal.
How can we control this?
- Wearing clother for longer period of time.
- Or buying one second hand item.
- Or redesign and reuse your own old garments.
Fast Fashion companies also provides employment to many people and help them grow. And also benefits the lower grade people to meet their clothing needs.
So, what I wanted to say is that it is just a matter of perspective but if we can control this buy not buying clothes frequently that can save our Mother Earth and future generations then please look into it and play your part.
